Joseph Koch

Obituary of Joseph C. Koch

Joseph "Joe" C. Koch, 74, of Somers Point, NJ passed away peacefully after a short illness surrounded by his family and companion. Joe came roaring into this life on October 25, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joe enjoyed a long and storied career as a talented artist and upholsterer. However, most people knew Joe through his decades of rebuilding and restoring classic, American cars. He breathed life into the automobiles of our past, celebrating the rich history of the American hot rod. Joe had a quick sense of humor and wit. He was a consummate conversationalist and many friends (and even strangers) enjoyed his funny stories and anecdotes. But, arguably, his greatest attribute was his love for and pride in his family. He enjoyed nothing more than to be enveloped in the laughter of his children. Joe was a devout Catholic and embraced his faith and his Saint Joe's Church family. Our father was predeceased by his beloved parents, Dorothea (Diegel) and Joseph Louis Koch and his adored brother, Robert. We are much comforted by the belief that our father has rejoined his family in heaven and will rejoice with them for eternity. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Erika (Vince) Kelley of Upper Township, NJ and Melissa (Michael) Oliver of Brambleton, Virginia and his son, Joseph (Stacey Sagadraka) of Kihei, Hawaii as well as many beloved grandchildren (Bobby, Joseph, Jonathan, Mokihana, Joey, Erika and Grace) who will deeply miss and never forget their Poppy. Our father was also survived by his partner, companion and caregiver, Cheryl Bailey, and her mother, Virginia Quickmire. Our dad was legendary; he was magical, complicated and incomparable. We will love him for infinity. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's viewing on Sunday 2/27 6:00-8:00pm at Middleton-Stroble & Zale Funeral Home, 304 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ 08244. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday 2/28 10:30am at Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ 08244. The burial will be privately held.
