Obituary of Joseph Edward Mauro

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph Edward Mauro, a retired Local 30 roofer and longtime resident of Somers Point, NJ passed peacefully on January 7, 2022. Joseph was born on December 13, 1953 to Joseph and Mary Mauro in Northeast Philadelphia, PA.  He was a member of Saint William Parish and graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School where he was a talented baseball player.

Joseph is survived by his longtime love Joyce Klemic; his children: Joseph Edward Mauro Jr. (Amber), Tricia McQueen (Gary), Dana O’Hare (Ryan), and Matthew Mauro (Rachel); his mother, Mary Mauro; his siblings,  James Mauro, Marianne Czyzewski, Thomas Mauro (Patty), and Florence Guldin (Tim); his 7 grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his father, Joseph Mauro and brother in law, Mark Czyzewski.

Joseph was a devoted father and friend.  He could often be found riding his bike on the bike path, on the beaches of Longport with Joyce, or hosting friends and family at his favorite spot, his backyard.  Joseph was a loyal friend and would do anything for the ones he loved. He always said, “It’s not the size of the dog, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”  He had a way with words and his one liners and nicknames will keep us all laughing through the years.  His unique fashion sense, his infectious laugh, and the quality time spent with his kids and grandkids will  truly be missed.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ 08244 on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers,  we are asking for donations to be made in his name to honor his love of coaching and baseball to the Somers Point Little League Foundation.  Donations can be sent to 12 Bucknell Road, Somers Point, NJ 08244.  Please make donations payable to “Somers Point Little League.”
