Obituary of Arlene J. Franco

Arlene J. Franco, 81, of Somers Point, passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 19, 2021 at Barclay Friends Senior Living Facility in West Chester, PA. Daughter of the late Stanley Czajkowski and Dorothy (Dunn) Czajkowski, she was born in Philadelphia on December 5, 1939. She attended St. Bartholomew Elementary School and graduated in 1957 from St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls. Arlene was married to the late John Arthur "Jack" Franco who passed away in December 2020. Jack and Arlene lived in Northeast Philadelphia and Warminster, PA before retiring to Somers Point, NJ. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October 2020. Early in Arlene's career she was employed as a Secretary in the Philadelphia area. After having children, she prided herself as being a homemaker while also working as a secretary with Franco-Haggerty Associates, her husband's photography business. Her multiple other jobs included working in the cafeteria at William Tennent High School and later as an administrative assistant at Bay Harbor Realty and at the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary prior to her retirement. Arlene was also known for her volunteer work. She gave of her time and talents with the Warminster Volunteer Ambulance Corps and later at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point. She enjoyed helping at the Gateway Theater and volunteered for many years on the committee to assist in planning Bayfest in Somers Point. She had a strong Catholic faith and instilled this in her family. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Somers Point and for many years attended Mass in the Chapel at the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. She also loved to travel within the US and abroad and was able to visit many countries on religious-focused tours. Arlene was most happy when spending time with her family and friends. She was especially proud of her two granddaughters and loved her role as Grandmom. She looked forward to visits and vacations with them and was known for her delicious spaghetti sauce and breakfast coffee cake. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Arlene is survived by her two sons John R. Franco of Egg Harbor City and Wayne T. Franco (Maureen) of West Chester, PA and grandchildren Emily Kathryn and Lauren Elizabeth, brother-in-law Robert Suez Franco (Mary) of Cincinnati, OH and nephews Mark (Tanya) Franco and Gregory (Angel) Franco and many great nieces/nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, 2249 Shore Road, Linwood, NJ, 08221. Funeral services for Arlene and a memorial service for her husband Jack will be held together on Monday, April 26, 2021. Viewing from 9-10:30am at Middleton-Stroble & Zale Funeral Home, 304 Shore Road, Somers Point, followed by Mass at 11am at St. Joseph Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing will be private.
