Obituary of John Scott Mackie, Jr.

John Scott Mackie, Jr., of Egg Harbor Township, died on January 5, 2021 at the age of 83. Born on August 24, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of John Scott and Bertha (Jones) Mackie. John Scott, affectionately known to his family as Scott, Jack, Dad, and Grandpa, grew up in Philadelphia, PA. Scott served in the Army, and later the Reserves. He held many different careers after that, including a long one in Advertising. Scott loved to serve his community. He served as an EMT for the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department earlier and was an active member of the Clark-Eliason American Legion Post #352. He loved being a member, had many friends there, and enjoyed the many shared meals. Scott loved soccer. He played at Frankford High School, and in the Army. He shared his love of soccer with his kids and nieces/nephews. He coached, refereed, and helped start the Prince William Soccer Club in Woodbridge, Virginia serving on the board as registrar for many years. He cheered on the Liverpool F.C Premier Soccer team later in life, having been a "ball boy" once for them when they came to the USA to play. Scott will be remembered for his sense of humor, ability to tell a good story, his love of tea, all things Scotland, big band music, Bingo, his call to Service, Philadelphia Eagles, and love of his family. Predeceased by his wife Carol (Clerico) Mackie, his parents John and Bertha Mackie, sisters Marilyn Raymond and Janice Walker, and son Sam Clerico. Survived by his children Roxanne (Rodney) Saldivar, J.T. (Cherie) Mackie, Bret Mackie, Anthony (Patty) Clerico, Gregg Clerico, Carol (Bill) Gaynor, grandchildren Tammy (Matt) Strieter, Tyler Mackie, Jonah Saldivar, Kai Saldivar, Kelsey Saldivar, Anthony Clerico, Michael Clerico, Heather Clerico, and Gabby Gaynor; great-grandchildren Logan Strieter and Everett Strieter; sister Judith Reiss; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins who all loved Jack. Services and burial in Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery will be held privately. A celebration of life will be planned for the summer.
