Obituary of John Arthur Franco

John Arthur "Jack" Franco, 82, of Somers Point, passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 11, 2020 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus.

Son of the late Angelo Arthur Franco and Helene (Suez) Franco, he was born in South Philadelphia on January 6, 1938.  He was raised in Mayfair and graduated from Nazareth Academy Grade School and Lincoln High School.  After serving our country in the U.S. Army, he married his loving wife, Julia Arlene (Czajkowski) Franco in October 1960.  Jack and Arlene lived in Northeast Philadelphia and Warminster, PA before retiring to Somers Point, NJ.   In October 2020, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Early in Jack’s career, he was employed as a photographer at the Philadelphia Bulletin and Philco Electronics.  He then established a successful commercial photography business, Franco-Haggerty Associates, which ran for 30 years until his retirement in 2001.

Jack was a lifelong avid fisherman who enjoyed both freshwater and saltwater fishing.  He was known for his tall-tales and “special” rigs.   Jack was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Somers Point and frequently attended Mass in the Chapel at the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Linwood, NJ.   He also took great interest in the civic affairs of Somers Point and served on several committees through the years.

Jack was a selfless friend and neighbor, always happy to lend a hand.  He was most happy when surrounded by his family and friends and was especially proud of his two granddaughters.  His role as “Grandpop” was , by far, his most cherished title.

He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jack is survived by his wife, Arlene of Somers Point, his two sons John R. Franco of Egg Harbor Township and Wayne T. Franco (Maureen) of West Chester, PA, and grandchildren Emily Kathryn and Lauren Elizabeth, his brother Robert Suez Franco (Mary) of Cincinnati , OH and nephews Mark (Tanya) Franco and Gregory (Angel) Franco, and many great nieces/nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, 2249 Shore Road, Linwood, NJ  08221.

Due to the pandemic and Coronavirus restrictions, private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  A memorial service and celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date.
