Obituary of George J. Thorpe

THORPE, GEORGE JOSEPH, age 95, of Linwood, died peacefully on February 22, 2020, lovingly surrounded by his family. George was born and raised in Philadelphia, attended North Catholic High School. At the age of 18, he became a proud member of the 4th Marine Division, fighting in the Pacific Campaign of WWII, most notably Iwo Jima. He worked for Adelphia Automatic Sprinkler Company for 42 years, serving as both superintendent and VP. Also a lifelong member of Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 692, where he served on their Executive Board for 25 years. Upon retirement, George and his wife enjoyed many happy days on Marco Island, FL. George is predeceased by his parents, George Sr. and Barbara, brother Bud, grandson Bryan, and wife Jeannine. He is survived by his loving daughters Patti (James) and Nancy (Fran); grandchildren Dena, Jim, Jeannine, Kevin, and Kyle; great grandchildren Jimmy and Kylie; and siblings Mern, Barbara, and James. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows, Linwood, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9:30-10:15am. Burial following in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Holy Redeemer Hospice.
