John Joseph Plunkett, Jr., 64, of Somers Point, NJ, passed away on July 5, 2020. "Jack" was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in Delran and graduated from Nichols College in Massachusetts in 1978. An avid lover of sports, horse racing, and gaming, Jack then began a 38 year career with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. There, he held various positions. He did, however, become particularly well known for his oversight and monitoring of the vital business of gaming equipment production and regulation, earning him the nickname of "gaming equipment Guru". For his entire life, Jack always loved the beach. He spent many happy days in Wildwood with treasured family and friends, including his days as a lifeguard. He was an avid golfer, lover of all animals, cheered for the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and 76ers and enjoyed racetrack days. He was a devoted son of Mary Ann and John; father, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Jack had an especially sharp wit and legendary sense of humor. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered in our hearts. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church, 8504 Frankford Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19136. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph R. C. Church, 606 Shore Rd. Somers Point, NJ 08244 or to the Humane Society of Atlantic County, 1401 Absecon Blvd, Atlantic City NJ 08401. Please share condolences on this tribute page.
