Obituary of Michael O'Hara

O'Hara, Dr. Michael E., - 65, of Somers Point, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 27, 2018. A dedicated husband, father, son and brother, Mike passed away after a courageous battle with Melanoma. Mike will be forever cherished and loved by his wife and best friend, Nancy (nee Major), and their children Michael Jr. (Randy), Brendan and Colin. Mike is also survived by his brothers and sisters Mary Ann (William) Clay, Kathleen Roman, John M. (Sharon) O'Hara; Joseph (Kathleen) O'Hara, and Donald (Patricia) O'Hara. Mike will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, patients and colleagues. Born in Somers Point, he was the son of the late John G. and Mary Frances O'Hara. A Somers Point native, he spent the early years of his life in his family home on Dawes Avenue, and was often seen chasing the family donkey, Silver, around town. A 1971 graduate of Mainland Regional High School, Mike earned his Bachelor's degree at Stockton State College and earned his Doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. A committed public servant, he was a former member of Somers Point Fire Company No. 1, and a dispatcher for the City of Somers Point. Mike practiced in the South Jersey region as a dedicated Optometric Physician, most recently employed at Visionworks in Millville. He will always be remembered as a tireless patient advocate who would go to any length to ensure his patients received the highest quality of care. Mike was an avid photographer and bird watcher. He loved walking on the beach and spending time in the great outdoors.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Middleton-Stroble & Zale Funeral Home in Somers Point from 6pm-9pm. A Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11am at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Somers Point. No viewing prior to Mass, burial will be private.
