Obituary of Joseph Merollo
Joseph A. Merollo, age 82, of Somers Point, passed away July 5th at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. Also born in Jefferson Hospital in 1935 with his twin sister.
Joe and his family moved to Atlantic City in 1948. At the age of 13, he took an interest in commercial fishing. By the age of 15, he was commercial scalloping and never stopped. Scalloping, harpooning sword fish, cod fishing, lobster fishing; he did it all. In the early 60's he fished not far from the Grand Banks. He has worked out of Atlantic City, Cape May, Point Judith Rhode Island, New Bedford Mass, Gloucester Mass and Newport Rhode Island. Joe retired after a 52 year career in the Atlantic Ocean.
Joe had a kind heart, and would help anyone out. He loved his family unconditionally, especially his two sons and grandchildren. Joe is predeceased in death by his parents, Anthony and Rosara "Sara" Merollo, his brother Gaetano "Guy" Merollo, his sister Lucy Bruno, and his twin sister Bessie Dooley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Charlotte Merollo, his two sons Guy Merollo (Jacklyn) and Paul Merollo (Peggy), his grandchildren Nicholas Merollo, Brittany Merollo, Jamie Beatty (Gary), Gaetin Merollo, Gage Merollo, and his best buddy Orville Mathis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing and visitation on Monday 9:30-10:45AM at St. Joseph RC Church, 606 Shore Rd. Somers Point, NJ 08244. Funeral Mass 11AM. Interment private.
